UniCare retiree members with chronic conditions can now access Senscio Systems’ Ibis Program, a personalized, at-home healthcare system
ANDOVER, MASS. — UniCare is now offering an innovative, at-home solution to manage chronic conditions as part of its continuing efforts to improve the health of its members by simplifying the healthcare experience. Through its partnership with Senscio Systems, UniCare retiree members will have access to a new virtual chronic care management program called Ibis Health that supports each individual’s whole health through daily connected care, round-the-clock monitoring, and one-to-one monthly support. UniCare, which administers health benefits for nearly 200,000 Massachusetts state and municipal workers and retirees, will offer this to its Medicare Extension Plan members.
“Our mission at UniCare is to support our members’ health journey from birth through their retirement years and provide the tools and resources they need to better manage their health,” said David Morales, general manager of UniCare. “We know that healthcare needs to be more personalized and simplified for it to be truly effective, and this new platform helps us do just that for members living with chronic conditions.”
Individuals who qualify will have the opportunity to participate in this virtual-care program that turns the home into the first point of access for day-to-day healthcare. Members receive personal telehealth tools for convenient self-management of their conditions. To date, Ibis users, who are often older adults battling chronic conditions such as COPD, diabetes, and heart disease, are reporting 37 percent fewer hospital admissions.
“We are very excited that UniCare and Senscio have come together to offer Ibis to Medicare enrollees. For retirees managing chronic illnesses, Ibis Health is a fantastic and easy to use tool. If we can lower healthcare costs, while helping retirees live healthier and better lives, then that is a true win-win,” said Mass Retirees CEO Shawn Duhamel. “Healthier retirees have fewer hospital admissions, which in turn helps lower overall healthcare costs. We applaud UniCare and Senscio for coming together on this new initiative, which can only benefit both retirees and the Commonwealth.”
Piali De, CEO of Senscio Systems, said, “We are grateful for the forward thinking and member-first mindset of the UniCare team. We built Ibis with retirement age individuals in mind. As retirees live past the days filled with work, worry, and constant responsibilities we are proud to offer them more control of their own health and better quality of life through proactively managed health.”
